Strasburg United Methodist Church and Strasburg Christian Church of Strasburg Virgina have come together with family promise to help the homeless
What is Family Promise?
Family Promise of Shenandoah County – a network of 13 host churches and over 20 support churches – works to bring shelter, meals, and support services to families without homes in Shenandoah County. Families must have at least one child under the age of 18 to be enrolled in the program. Family members must be free from alcohol and drug use and be willing to live in a community setting. Host congregations provide overnight lodging, breakfast, brown bag lunches, dinner, and hospitality. The support church volunteers help these host congregations with those tasks. Volunteers are the heart of Family Promise – they cook meals, serve meals, play with children, help with homework, talk to and encourage family members. Family Promise allows families to stay together as a family while they look for employment and permanent housing. During the day, family members come to the Family Center where they can shower, do laundry and have access to on-line job searches and housing information. We operate 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, and strive to meet all basic needs of the family so each family member can concentrate on finding employment and housing.
